Isaiah 5:20: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
Regular readers of ‘Protestant Revival’ may well have seen an article we posted at the beginning of last week which revealed the Methodist Church in Britain was to receive a report at its annual conference backing the introduction of same-sex ‘marriage’ in the church.
The report was compiled by the Methodist Church’s ‘Marriage and Relationships Task Force’, whose members include Rev Ken Howcroft (Chairman, pictured, top), Rev Ashley Cooper, ‘Rev’ Roberta Topham, ‘Rev’ Naomi Cooke (1 Timothy 2:12), Rev Geoffrey Farrar (pictured, below) and a man who appears to represent the Methodist Church in Cameroon, whose name we could not catch when he spoke at the conference.
There would appear to be two further members, and if any reader is able to help us fill in the blanks, it would be greatly appreciated.
This report blasphemously claimed they were “being called by God” to back sodomite ‘marriage’ and that such a retrograde move would be “both scriptural and faithful”.
It is of course profoundly unscriptural and unfaithful to God, who calls homosexuality an “abomination” (Leviticus 18:22) and “vile” and “against nature” (Romans 1:26).
We won’t go through the entire, very clear, Scriptural case against such a godless move again, but you can read it by clicking here.
The God-defying Methodists penning that report came up with all sorts of dishonest, feeble arguments against several Scripture passages which clearly outline God’s great displeasure against the sin of sodomy.
We said in that previous article that it was very clear the individuals behind the report were writing “from a position of outright support for the introduction of sodomite ‘marriage’”.
And it is clear from the Methodist Church in Britain’s Conference that this is the sad, apostate view within that church.
When a vote was taken at the Conference on Wednesday past on whether or not to back the recommendation to introduce same-sex marriage, 247 voted in favour and 48 against.
That is a whopping 84 per cent, or more than five in six, who voted to utterly overthrow the Word of God in favour of pleasing their own sinful desires and in favour of pleasing the sinful society around them.
This means the motion will be put out to consultation to Methodists in the pews over the next year before formal ratification of this ungodly move at next year’s conference.
As we have said previously, this ruling will come into effect next year in England, Scotland and Wales, but will not apply in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.
What a sad day it is in which we live where those who claim to be God’s servants are leading the rejection of His Word.
Destruction is on its way when such a situation prevails as that which we are seeing today.
Isaiah 9:14-16: “Therefore the Lord will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day. The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.”
Those who are led by those who “teacheth lies” are “destroyed”, God’s Word says.
What a fearful thing it is to be in that position.
God has also clearly pronounced His wrath against those who speak their own sinful views and ascribe them to Him.
Jeremiah 23:31-32: “Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the Lord.”
Are not these individuals behind this report saying “he saith” as they blasphemously claim they are “being called by God” to give their blessing to same sex marriages?
‘Rev’ Naomi Cooke, one of the group’s members, appeared at the conference wearing a ‘Pride’ rainbow lanyard (pictured, above), while Rev Geoffrey Farrar took to Twitter after the vote to celebrate the support for that which God has condemned as an “abomination”.
Also among the Methodists who have seen fit to welcome this grievous decision is Rev Sam McBratney (pictured, below).
He is in a homosexual relationship himself (with another Methodist minister, no less) and is Chairman of a Methodist grouping called ‘Dignity and Worth’, the logo of which bears the ‘Pride’ rainbow colours.
On its website, it lists a number of things they believe in, the first of which is “radical diversity”.
This is what they say under that heading: “We rejoice that God has created LGBTQI+ people as part of that rich tapestry of life and we seek to celebrate this in worship.”
God hasn’t created “LGBTQI+” people, sin has created people who identify as such.
Matthew 19:4-6: “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
In verse 6, Jesus says to “let not man put asunder” the union of man and woman through divorce, but it could just as easily be applied to the notion of a man and woman joining in union. Jesus clearly here endorses the creation principle of a man and a woman marrying one another. Nowhere is it countenanced that there might be another acceptable form of relationship.
Ironically, this group also claims one of its beliefs is “biblical fidelity”. Perhaps they forgot to type the ‘in’ ahead of the word fidelity when they were putting the website together.
A group called Methodist Evangelicals Together had called for a day of prayer two weeks ago as they sought to oppose this godless development, and we had referred to that in our previous article.
Their spokesperson, Rev David Hull, said he was “very saddened” by the move. That would be an understatement!
He also, foolishly, stated his opposition to separation from the Methodist Church at this point.
However, he did appear to endorse separating from the Methodist Church if sodomite ‘marriage’ is officially ratified next year.
He said: “I’m urging people not to leave just yet. I’m urging people to stay and to make the case for remaining faithful as long as we can.
“I don’t believe in division within the body of Christ but I do believe that we need to stand firmly on biblical teaching and so what I will be doing is, when asked the question, whether I continue to uphold the doctrine and discipline of the Methodist Church, if it changes I will have to say no at that point.”
For a church to even be considering officially blessing such wickedness is more than enough reason to separate immediately.
There are clergy within this church, such as Rev Sam McBratney, who are openly practising sodomites.
How could Rev David Hull not consider that a separation issue?
He should be sounding aloud the call of Revelation 18:4-5: “And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.”
Even now Rev David Hull is compromised by remaining in a denomination which allows for sodomites to occupy its pulpits.
That being said, he is to be commended for at least voicing his opposition to this dreadful, brazen apostasy within the Methodist Church in Britain.
What we so desperately need in Ulster, Britain and the whole of Ireland, as well as elsewhere, is a heaven-sent revival.
Let us earnestly cry unto the Lord for a deliverance from the wicked attacks upon His Word and upon His people in our day and generation.
Then we might even share in the joy referred to in Psalm 126, which says: “When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south. They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
