So-called ‘evangelical’ Bishop Harold Miller promotes unity with Rome

Isaiah 29:13: “Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men”.

Every year in the latter part of January, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity takes centre stage in many of the ecumenical churches, and 2019 was no different.

Indeed, it was the subject of one of the first posts mounted on this page last year and, sadly, once again this year we have the sad duty of documenting the wretched compromise carried out in the name of ‘unity’ in many of the churches up and down our land.

We are aware of at least eight ecumenical events which took place in Northern Ireland throughout the week, though it is more than likely there were more.

We would certainly encourage any readers who were aware of other events to get in contact with us to allow this compromise to be brought to a larger audience.

The towns (and cities) throughout our land of which we are aware holding such services are Coleraine (County Londonderry), Ballycastle, Belfast (County Antrim), Dungannon (County Tyrone), Lurgan, Armagh (County Armagh), Enniskillen (County Fermanagh) and Bangor (County Down).

That means in every county of our country there was so-called Protestant clerics either speaking at or promoting religious mingling with the errors and deceits of Rome.

This demonstrates how widespread the religious deception and delusion is in our country.

And part of that deception is caused by those who give some sort of an impression to others that they hold to a more traditional and orthodox view and theology.

This is where a great deal of spiritual discernment is needed and must be sought by Christians.

There is an old saying that ‘if you get a name for rising early you can lie all day’ and that appears to be the case with many church leaders in our country.

Too many today seem to think the acid test of orthodoxy is simply saying you are opposed to abortion and same sex marriage, but holding to those views simply means you are not a complete reprobate on moral matters.

Religious purity ought to be a precious commodity sought diligently by all who claim the name of Christ.

However, this is not valued by a significant percentage of today’s church.

And one such man who has somehow managed to carve out a reputation of being an ‘evangelical’ is the Church of Ireland Bishop of Down and Dromore, Harold Miller (pictured, top), who was the preacher at one such Week of Prayer for Christian Unity event last week.

In days of yore the term evangelical may have meant more but in recent decades that term has been hijacked by many clerical compromisers seeking a greater level of orthodoxy being attributed to them.

The late Rev Ian Paisley talked about evangelicals ‘with the emphasis on the jelly’ and certainly we can see the term evangelical being distorted and corrupted by many who adopt that banner.

Indeed, Bishop Harold Miller was one of two Anglican bishops from Ireland who attended the much vaunted GAFCON (Global Anglican Future Conference), a supposedly conservative Anglican gathering concerned with the worst excesses of the foul departure from God practiced by much of the global Anglican movement.

Were someone such a conservative, they would be much better separating from the Anglican church, which is the Biblical approach.

One must only look at the example of Paul when he was in Corinth to see how separation is a proper response to those who refuse to follow God’s Word.

Acts 19:8-9: “And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.”

When there were those who spake evil of the gospel and denied and rejected it, and indeed slandered its proponents and adherents, Paul separated and brought the faithful followers of Jesus with him.

He didn’t tell them to stay in the synagogue and try to win round those who refused to obey God, he brought them out and they formed their own church in Corinth.

And indeed it was to the church in Corinth that Paul, under the inspiration of God, penned those famous words in 2 Corinthians 6:17: “Come out from among them, and be ye separate…”

Yet this ‘conservative’, ‘evangelical’ Bishop Harold Miller remains in the Church of Ireland in his very prominent, and no doubt rather generously remunerated role.

And last Sunday, 20 January, Bishop Harold Miller was the preacher at a Week of Prayer for Christian Unity service in First Presbyterian Church in Bangor.

The event was advertised in the Bangor Roman Catholic parish bulletin and clearly demonstrates the ecumenical nature of the meeting.

How does Bishop Harold Miller square his supposed evangelical credentials with ecumenical compromise with Rome?

Why does Bishop Harold Miller choose to align himself with an event with a stated aim of unity with Rome?

What does Bishop Harold Miller think of the 39 Articles he is supposed to stand for as a minister of the Church of Ireland? Does he believe them? Or has he rejected them?

It would certainly appear he has indeed rejected them.

Article 11, relating to the justification of man, says this: “We are accounted righteous before God, only for the merit of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by Faith, and not for our own works or deservings.”

Rome outright denies this, proclaiming its anathema, or curse, on any who holds to the Biblical doctrine of salvation by faith alone in Christ alone.

So why is Bishop Harold Miller promoting unity with Rome? Does he believe man can be justified by works? The Bible makes clear that is resolutely not the case.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Titus 3:5-7 says: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

Bishop Harold Miller would also do well to reread Article 31, which states: “The Offering of Christ once made is that perfect redemption, propitiation, and satisfaction, for all the sins of the whole world, both original and actual; and there is none other satisfaction for sin, but that alone.

“Wherefore the sacrifices of Masses, in the which it was commonly said, that the Priest did offer Christ for the quick and the dead, to have remission of pain or guilt, were blasphemous fables, and dangerous deceits.”

So Bishop Harold Miller, who is supposed to adhere to the 39 Articles of his faith, is rejecting that very church’s teachings in relation to the central act of worship in the Roman Catholic Church.

Why does Bishop Harold Miller want to promote unity with those who teach “blasphemous fables and dangerous deceits”? And if Bishop Harold Miller doesn’t believe the 39 Articles, then why is he holding such high episcopal office, or indeed any episcopal office?

Dear reader, don’t just take what spiritual leaders say for granted, but rather follow the Biblical model and test out these characters before deciding whether they are worthy of taking heed of.

1 John 4:1 says: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

The ecumenical festival that is the Women’s World Day of Prayer

Northern Ireland was infested yesterday (Friday, 2 March) with ecumenical celebrants in the Women’s World Day of Prayer.

We are aware of no fewer than 38 such meetings throughout the country, though some of them appear to have been cancelled / postponed due to the weather.

Described as an international ecumenical Christian laywomen’s initiative, female members of the various mainstream Protestant churches and Roman Catholic Church gather to pray.

For what is not entirely certain, though ecumenical meetings often tend to happen for their own sake.

To whom is another good question, given that Rome teaches of prayer to saints and Mary, while the Bible says that prayer is to God through our Lord Jesus Christ alone.

1 Timothy 2:5 says: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

A significant number of the meetings listed on the Women’s World Day of Prayer took place in the Belfast area, though every county in Northern Ireland played host to at least one of these gatherings. Most of the meetings took place in Protestant churches, but a sprinkling were held in Roman Catholic churches.

A couple of the churches which played host to meetings are of particular interest.

First among these is Fortwilliam and Macrory Presbyterian Church, based in north Belfast. It is the old stomping ground of ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll (1 Timothy 2:12), whom we have mentioned previously, having led an ecumenical meeting in a Roman Catholic Church in County Tyrone during which she expressed her hope that ecumenism would be rejuvenated.

Another noteworthy meeting was in County Fermanagh, in Inishmacsaint Parish Church. This rather obscure parish is the domain of Canon David Skuce, who was the guest speaker at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Monea, County Fermanagh, in a service during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

From a brief scan of the internet, we have also noticed invitations to some of these meetings in the online Catholic Church parish bulletins.

These include the Drumcree Parish Bulletin in Portadown, County Armagh, where parishioners are invited to attend the Women’s World Day of Prayer in Armagh Road Presbyterian Church in the town.

This can be of little surprise given the notoriety of that church’s ‘minister’, a ‘Rev’ Christine Bradley. We have already provided the Scripture which demonstrates she is incapable in God’s eyes of holding the position she claims, but she also has rather questionable views on same sex marriage, having expressed her pleasure at the result of a referendum in the Republic of Ireland in 2015 which legalised that practice which is absolutely contrary to God’s Word

Leviticus 18:22 says: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”

Romans 1:22-27 says: “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”

Genesis 2:24 says: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

Another such example is in the Bangor Parish Bulletin, which advertises Women’s World Day of Prayer meetings in Shore Street Presbyterian Church in Donaghadee, County Down and in nearby Groomsport Parish Church of Ireland.

Ecumenism is going on all around us and is happening on such a regular basis and Bible believing Christians need to stand up against this dreadful compromise with the darkness of Rome.

Below we have listed every ecumenical Women’s World Day of Prayer meeting we are aware of. If someone you know is involved with any of the churches listed below, please share this with them to warn them of the dangerous game their spiritual leaders are playing and if you are involved with any of these churches yourself, then challenge your minister as to why they are involving themselves and their churches in this spiritual degradation.

The message of ecumenical deceit – ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll

After having seen photographs of the ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll’s appearance in St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Donaghmore, County Tyrone, we now have the content of the message delivered by the ordained Presbyterian female ‘minister’ (1 Timothy 2:12), featured in the Irish News, a Roman Catholic newspaper.

Lesley Carroll is an arch ecumenist and in her message during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity she appeared to equate the Pope’s impending visit to Ireland with the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and God’s miraculous parting of the Red Sea and stated that the Second Vatican Council offered hope to Christianity.

What blasphemous nonsense!

Within her address, ‘Rev’ Carroll also offered up plenty of bland, ‘thought for the day’ type fluff, the speciality of ecumenists.

Her message was also conspicuously lacking even one single reference to so much as a solitary verse from the Bible. What a surprise.

Citing a ‘Father’ Michael Hurley, who co-founded the Irish School of Ecumenics (a man well worth citing then), she said he had described the push for church unity as having entered “an ecumenical winter”.

If only ecumenism were utterly frozen and swept away by an avalanche of Biblical Christianity, Ulster would not be in the spiritual mess it is.

Referring to some television series she has been watching on ‘Netflix’, the ‘Rev’ Carroll quoted a character therefrom, Harriet Tubman, who gained freedom from slavery in the USA.

Apparently, this lady in the television show said there was a “before” and an “after” in relation to her freedom.

This, ‘Rev’ Carroll said, could be equated with ecumenical efforts to bring about church unity.

She said we are now “after” Vatican II or the Second Vatican Council, which had stressed the Roman Catholic Church’s keenness for ecumenical dialogue… on its terms of course. The Vatican also failed to move an inch on the various key tenets of its corrupt system, including the paganism of idolatry, the lie of Purgatory, the worship of Mary and Saints and the blasphemy of the Mass, among others.

And ‘Rev’ Carroll claims that Vatican II “brought such hope not only to Catholicism but also to the whole ecumenical world”.

The Roman Catholic Church removes hope from its adherents, with its corrupt gospel of works damning its followers to hell. We are saved by God’s grace. Ephesians 2:8-9 says: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

We need to be ever watchful against efforts to move towards or soften our stance in relation to Rome. Colossians 2:8: “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

However, the likes of arch ecumenist ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll are throwing themselves into the arms of the anti-Christian system that is Rome.

Her soppy soliloquy gets worse, though.

She stresses her desire for this so-called “ecumenical winter” to give way to an “ecumenical spring”, ie expressing her desire to reinvigorate the ecumenical movement and carry on this mingling of the seed, this distortion of true Biblical Protestantism to please the ungodly appetites of the anti-Christian papal system.

Deuteronomy 22:9 warns against such dangerous practices agriculturally, with a clear spiritual parallel to be drawn, and it is no less important to do the same with the precious gospel of Christ. It says: “Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled.”

‘Rev’ Carroll said that “For Moses… there was ‘before’ the Red Sea and there was ‘after’ the Red Sea, with so much still to happen and be done before the people of God would reach the Promised Land.”

Is she comparing the Children of Israel reaching Canaan, God’s covenant land for His people, to unity with Rome?

She continues: “We pray for a time, a mark in the life of the church between a ‘before’ and an ‘after’, between an ecumenical winter and an ecumenical spring.”

Regardless of what success ‘Rev’ Carroll has in bringing about an ‘ecumenical spring’, we can be sure it will not be as a result of God answering her prayers.

Believers ought to pray that the efforts of ‘Rev’ Carroll and her cohorts will come to nought.

And the worst part of her speech was yet to come as she then appeared to liken Jesus’ birth to the upcoming visit to these shores of the Pope.

She said: “Perhaps it (this ‘ecumenical spring’) will be heralded by a big event like the visit of the Pope and perhaps it will be heralded in a quiet corner, as was Jesus’ birth.”

This is a strange comment for a Presbyterian ‘minister’ to make, seeing as she signed the Westminster Confession of Faith at her ordination, at which point she declared the Pope to be “that Antichrist, that man of sin, and son of perdition”.

The Pope’s potential visit to Northern Ireland will bring great shame to this country, and to mention it in the same breath as the birth of our Saviour is despicable.

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15), not to satisfy the ungodly aims of ecumenists like the ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll.

Our cry must ever be: “No peace with Rome until Rome makes peace with God”.

The smiling face of ecumenical deceit – ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll

A reader of our blog has very kindly got in contact to share with us some photographs in a local newspaper called the ‘Dungannon Herald’ of one of the ecumenical services held during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

This was held in St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Chapel in Donaghmore, near Dungannon, a meeting we specified in our posting earlier this week.

Among the three photographs, which appear to fill most of a page in the newspaper, is one of a character we commented upon previously, the ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll, a female Presbyterian ‘minister’ in North Belfast.

It is a picture of her in full flight in her message of compromise at the meeting, where she was the guest speaker.

The picture beneath that shows her smiling with another ecumenical cheerleader, Rev Peter Thompson, who, according to the Church of Ireland’s website, is the rector in its Donaghmore and Castlecaulfield congregations (allowing him to do double the damage!).

The third figure in the photograph is, of course, an emissary of Papal deceit, ‘Father’ Gerard McAleer, the Parish Priest of Donaghmore.

The final, and largest, photograph, is of the congregation in attendance. We are informed there are at least four Protestants in the congregation, although there may well be more.

It is truly shaming to see the likes of ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll and Rev Peter Thompson leading their congregations into such services in the mistaken belief that any good can come of mingling with the blasphemy of Rome.

There is a solemn responsibility placed upon ministers as shepherds of their flock. Jesus called Himself the Good Shepherd and ministers are supposed to be called of Him to emulate that role in His church.

Rev Peter Thompson and ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll fall well short of any acceptable standard of shepherding their spiritual flock. Lesley Carroll of course, should not have a flock to shepherd by reason of her gender (1 Timothy 2:12) and we know not whether Rev Peter Thompson is appropriately qualified to act as a minister. Perhaps act is a good word!

This solemn responsibility on a minister is demonstrated well for us in Ezekiel 3:17-19.

It says: “Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.”

Firstly, God has set a watchman, not a watchwoman, and secondly, if someone claiming to be sent of God to preach His Word fails to warn those under his ministry of the dangers of sin, God says the blood of those he failed to warn will be on that preacher’s hands.

Rome is a pagan church of idolatry and priestcraft and not only have these ministers failed to warn their congregation of the dangers of touching the unclean thing of Rome, they are actively encouraging it!

Oh the blood guiltiness of the apostate preacher! How many souls will ecumenical false prophets damn to the fires of hell?

Dear Christian, rise up against this departure, let not your voice be silent, warn the lost and, if you are associated with any Church involved in ecumenical work, “come out from among them and be ye separate” (2 Corinthians 6:17), and let your hireling of a pastor know exactly what God thinks of his treachery.

A prayer for Christians to unite around: ‘No peace with Rome’

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity took up a significant part of ecclesiastical efforts in the mainstream churches of Northern Ireland in the latter stages of January.

Worshippers of various different hues shared in services with the stated aim of promoting unity between those carrying the banner of ‘Christian’.

One might respond to that: ‘Sure, isn’t that great? Would you not want everyone to be united?’ However, these ecumenical meetings are contrary to God’s Word and are rendered as such, in fact, to be anti-Christian.

Services were held in Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Church of Ireland and other churches throughout Ulster.

The theme of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity was “That all may be free”, however, the ecumenists leading these meetings are preaching “another gospel”, and not seeking the Word of God, with the effect of trapping worshippers in the bondage of idolatry. Jesus said in John 8:31-32: “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

There is no truth in the “another gospel” of ecumenism.

Given it was a week of prayer, it is surely a valid question to ask to whom were these people praying. The Bible states in 1 Timothy 2:5: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” However, the Roman Catholic Church teaches of prayer to Mary and to saints. So a Roman Catholic beside a Protestant in the meeting could be praying to different beings. What confusion!

We will briefly give a rundown of some of the meetings and their principal speakers held across this province during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity:

Armagh Church of Ireland Cathedral – Roman Catholic ‘Father’ Kieran McDermott, administrator of St Mary’s Pro Cathedral, Dublin was the speaker.

Shankill Parish Church, Lurgan (Church of Ireland) – Roman Catholic Church layman and former British Ambassador to the Vatican, Francis Campbell.

St Patrick’s RC Chapel, Donaghmore – ‘Rev’ Lesley Carroll, ‘minister’ of Fortwilliam and Macrory Presbyterian Church.

Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Monea (County Fermanagh) – Hosted by ‘Father’ Jimmy McPhillips, guest speaker was Canon David Skuce, Inishmacsaint Parish Church (CoI) and the Bible reading was by Rev Sampson Ajuka, Devenish and Boho Parish Church (CoI).

We know of several others held in various other places throughout the country, including Limavady, Moneyreagh and others, but trust this gives a flavour of what we’re talking about, while also demonstrating how widespread this is.

So-called Protestant churches are selling themselves to Rome, rushing into her arms. One has to wonder why this is?

Part of the reason in ‘peace process’ Northern Ireland is surely a desire to be considered cross-community friendly (ie Protestants and Catholics getting on with each other). Surely the kindest thing we can do with our Roman Catholic neighbours is show them the errors of their church and outline the glory of salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

It must also be feared a crucial reason is these people don’t know their Bible.

As is always important, the question must be asked: “What saith the scripture?” (Romans 4:3).

The Bible says in Ephesians 5:11: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”

We are further instructed in the book of Jude verse 3 that we “should earnestly contend for the faith”.

Does cosying up with the church of Rome, with its tyrannical gospel of works, exaltation of the Pope, worship of Mary, blasphemy of the Mass, fictitious creation of Purgatory and its deceits and superstitions of relics and idols, count as “earnestly contending for the faith” or is it rather having “fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness”?

We trust it is clear as to which it is.

As for the individual so-called Protestant clergy and churches involved in the services above, it is clear they have disregarded their ordination oaths and the principles to which they signed up when they begin their vocation.

Perhaps of particular interest is the ‘Rev’ Dr Lesley Carroll, a Presbyterian clergy woman (a contradiction in terms, of course). She is holding a position to which she is not entitled for starters (1 Timothy 2:12) but is also an advocate of liberalising abortion law. Abortion is a euphemism for the massacre of the unborn, but this clergy woman wants an “emphasis on choice” for expectant mothers.

Presbyterian ministers, when ordained, are required to sign the Westminster Confession of Faith. In paragraph 25, chapter 6. It states: “There is no other head of the church but the Lord Jesus Christ; nor can the Pope of Rome, in any sense, be head thereof; but is that Antichrist, that man of sin, and son of perdition, that exalts himself, in the church, against Christ and all that is called God.”

Similarly, the ’39 Articles’ are the governing precepts of the Anglican movement (which includes the Church of Ireland). The 31st of these makes clear its view of the Roman Catholic Church and makes it all the more inexplicable why such close links are forged between the two.

Article 31 states: “The Offering of Christ once made is that perfect redemption, propitiation, and satisfaction, for all the sins of the whole world, both original and actual; and there is none other satisfaction for sin, but that alone.

“Wherefore the sacrifices of Masses, in the which it was commonly said, that the Priest did offer Christ for the quick and the dead, to have remission of pain or guilt, were blasphemous fables, and dangerous deceits.”

It is our desire that anyone reading this associated with those churches challenge those in leadership and force them to articulate their view clearly and definitively, and ultimately to follow the advice of 2 Corinthians 6:17 to “come out from among them and be ye separate… and touch not the unclean thing”.

Also, if you are associated with any other denomination and hear no voice of condemnation, then lift up your own voice and make sure it is heard loud and clear:

“There can be no peace with Rome until Rome makes peace with God.”
