Methodist Church votes 5 to 1 in favour of sodomite ‘marriage’

Isaiah 5:20: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Regular readers of ‘Protestant Revival’ may well have seen an article we posted at the beginning of last week which revealed the Methodist Church in Britain was to receive a report at its annual conference backing the introduction of same-sex ‘marriage’ in the church.

The report was compiled by the Methodist Church’s ‘Marriage and Relationships Task Force’, whose members include Rev Ken Howcroft (Chairman, pictured, top), Rev Ashley Cooper, ‘Rev’ Roberta Topham, ‘Rev’ Naomi Cooke (1 Timothy 2:12), Rev Geoffrey Farrar (pictured, below) and a man who appears to represent the Methodist Church in Cameroon, whose name we could not catch when he spoke at the conference.

There would appear to be two further members, and if any reader is able to help us fill in the blanks, it would be greatly appreciated.

This report blasphemously claimed they were “being called by God” to back sodomite ‘marriage’ and that such a retrograde move would be “both scriptural and faithful”.

It is of course profoundly unscriptural and unfaithful to God, who calls homosexuality an “abomination” (Leviticus 18:22) and “vile” and “against nature” (Romans 1:26).

We won’t go through the entire, very clear, Scriptural case against such a godless move again, but you can read it by clicking here.

The God-defying Methodists penning that report came up with all sorts of dishonest, feeble arguments against several Scripture passages which clearly outline God’s great displeasure against the sin of sodomy.

We said in that previous article that it was very clear the individuals behind the report were writing “from a position of outright support for the introduction of sodomite ‘marriage’”.

And it is clear from the Methodist Church in Britain’s Conference that this is the sad, apostate view within that church.

When a vote was taken at the Conference on Wednesday past on whether or not to back the recommendation to introduce same-sex marriage, 247 voted in favour and 48 against.

That is a whopping 84 per cent, or more than five in six, who voted to utterly overthrow the Word of God in favour of pleasing their own sinful desires and in favour of pleasing the sinful society around them.

This means the motion will be put out to consultation to Methodists in the pews over the next year before formal ratification of this ungodly move at next year’s conference.

As we have said previously, this ruling will come into effect next year in England, Scotland and Wales, but will not apply in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.

What a sad day it is in which we live where those who claim to be God’s servants are leading the rejection of His Word.

Destruction is on its way when such a situation prevails as that which we are seeing today.

Isaiah 9:14-16: “Therefore the Lord will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day. The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.”

Those who are led by those who “teacheth lies” are “destroyed”, God’s Word says.

What a fearful thing it is to be in that position.

God has also clearly pronounced His wrath against those who speak their own sinful views and ascribe them to Him.

Jeremiah 23:31-32: “Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the Lord.”

Are not these individuals behind this report saying “he saith” as they blasphemously claim they are “being called by God” to give their blessing to same sex marriages?

‘Rev’ Naomi Cooke, one of the group’s members, appeared at the conference wearing a ‘Pride’ rainbow lanyard (pictured, above), while Rev Geoffrey Farrar took to Twitter after the vote to celebrate the support for that which God has condemned as an “abomination”.

Also among the Methodists who have seen fit to welcome this grievous decision is Rev Sam McBratney (pictured, below).

He is in a homosexual relationship himself (with another Methodist minister, no less) and is Chairman of a Methodist grouping called ‘Dignity and Worth’, the logo of which bears the ‘Pride’ rainbow colours.

On its website, it lists a number of things they believe in, the first of which is “radical diversity”.

This is what they say under that heading: “We rejoice that God has created LGBTQI+ people as part of that rich tapestry of life and we seek to celebrate this in worship.”

God hasn’t created “LGBTQI+” people, sin has created people who identify as such.

Matthew 19:4-6: “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

In verse 6, Jesus says to “let not man put asunder” the union of man and woman through divorce, but it could just as easily be applied to the notion of a man and woman joining in union. Jesus clearly here endorses the creation principle of a man and a woman marrying one another. Nowhere is it countenanced that there might be another acceptable form of relationship.

Ironically, this group also claims one of its beliefs is “biblical fidelity”. Perhaps they forgot to type the ‘in’ ahead of the word fidelity when they were putting the website together.

A group called Methodist Evangelicals Together had called for a day of prayer two weeks ago as they sought to oppose this godless development, and we had referred to that in our previous article.

Their spokesperson, Rev David Hull, said he was “very saddened” by the move. That would be an understatement!

He also, foolishly, stated his opposition to separation from the Methodist Church at this point.

However, he did appear to endorse separating from the Methodist Church if sodomite ‘marriage’ is officially ratified next year.

He said: “I’m urging people not to leave just yet. I’m urging people to stay and to make the case for remaining faithful as long as we can.

“I don’t believe in division within the body of Christ but I do believe that we need to stand firmly on biblical teaching and so what I will be doing is, when asked the question, whether I continue to uphold the doctrine and discipline of the Methodist Church, if it changes I will have to say no at that point.”

For a church to even be considering officially blessing such wickedness is more than enough reason to separate immediately.

There are clergy within this church, such as Rev Sam McBratney, who are openly practising sodomites.

How could Rev David Hull not consider that a separation issue?

He should be sounding aloud the call of Revelation 18:4-5: “And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.”

Even now Rev David Hull is compromised by remaining in a denomination which allows for sodomites to occupy its pulpits.

That being said, he is to be commended for at least voicing his opposition to this dreadful, brazen apostasy within the Methodist Church in Britain.

What we so desperately need in Ulster, Britain and the whole of Ireland, as well as elsewhere, is a heaven-sent revival.

Let us earnestly cry unto the Lord for a deliverance from the wicked attacks upon His Word and upon His people in our day and generation.

Then we might even share in the joy referred to in Psalm 126, which says: “When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south. They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”

  1. I have a number of comments which I hope you will consider.
Why are female ministers described withe prefix ‘Rev’. What is the significance of the inverted commas?
I object to the description ‘ God defying Methodists’
Is that not an over generalisation ?
It takes no account of huge numbers of Methodist Church members who would be described as Bible believing Christians, who know Jesus as their Saviour, who know that through Him, they have become children of God.
How can you describe the church as being apostate ?
Methodist Evangelicals Together is a recognised group within the Methodist Church. It stands for evangelical principles. If you encourage members of this group to leave, you will remove a large number of Bible believing Christians. Where then will be the opposition to the church introducing policies and practices which you are objecting to?
I find the tone of so much which your organisation is saying highly divisive. Where is the love and compassion which Jesus proclaimed?
Where is the grace which is so fundamental to our faith?
May all who claim to be followers of Jesus seek to know the fruits of the spirit in their lives so that God may be glorified

    1. Hello DPC,

Thanks very much for getting in touch and we are more than happy to consider your comments and respond to them.

In relation to the inverted commas, it is explained by 1 Timothy 2:12 and the Scriptural prohibition on female ministers.

The description is not a general comment on all members of the Methodist Church, but rather in reference to those who were behind this report. This is clear from the context in the article as it says “The God-defying Methodists penning that report…” This is very clearly not a comment on every member of the church. It is very clear the recommendation of the report is in defiance of God, and that is what we are speaking in relation to.

Not for one moment do we doubt there are many saved people in the Methodist Church. Until the end of this age, the cry will need to be made to God’s elect to separate from the ungodly.

Revelation 18:2-5: “And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.”

Apostasy is the turning away from a certain previously held belief. The Methodist Church used to oppose same-sex marriage. Now its clergy is in support of same-sex marriage and voted to introduce it, something clearly rejected by Scripture. This is apostasy and indeed very clear apostasy.

The church voted by 5 to 1 in favour of same-sex ‘marriage’, it has sodomite ministers already – the church is utterly given over to Christ rejection and by that we mean the church as a body, not every individual in the pews.

A church where 84% of clergy are so far removed from God’s Word that it claims it believes it is being “called by God” to sanction that which He has called an “abomination” is not a church Christians should want to associate with.

Rev David Hull of Methodist Evangelicals Together has himself appeared to back leaving the church if this is fully ratified next year so your question about where will the opposition be could be equally as well applied to him.

In any event, Jesus preached separation from those who teach false doctrines, such as the Pharisees.

He said in Matthew 15:14: “Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”

“Let them alone” means to shun or to avoid, and that ought to be the response of God’s children when such false religious teachers or teachings spring up.

In regard to divisiveness, the Word of God is divisive and there will be nothing more divisive than the day of judgement when the sheep and the goats will be separated.

Luke 12:51-53 says: “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.”

1 Peter 2:7-8 speaks of the offensiveness to the unbeliever of God’s Word.

It says: “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.”

We are in fact striving to follow, as God helps us, the example of Jesus, Who was never afraid to speak out against error.

We do this out of love and compassion for lost souls being misled by religious leaders who are teaching them lies.

And we certainly can’t disagree with your final comment in seeking to bring glory to God through the fruits of the Spirit being demonstrated in the lives of those who claim to be Christ’s followers.

And may we add that we hope that all those who claim to be Christ’s followers would separate from denominations which have rejected His Word.

      1. Sisters and brothers in Christ.
As an evangelical Methodist who does not agree with my Church’s report concerning Christian marriage, I find your comments about the report, Rev Dr David Hull, and the Methodist Church in general deeply disturbing. However you try to adjust the sentiment behind your comments, you must know that they come across as a judgement on all members of the Methodist Church.
Like the author of the previous letter, I fail to understand why you have inserted commas around the names of our 2 women Presbyters.
I am also concerned that your comment about our brother from the Cameroons borders on being racist.
But, most of all, you will know that our Lord held His harshest judgments for religious people who spoke as though they believed they had a monopoly on the truth.
I suggest the author(s) of the comments read 1 Corinthians 13 again very slowly, very thoughtfully, and take to heart Paul’s words about “noisy gongs and clanging cymbals.)
Jesus’ comment,”Let him who is without sin cast the first stone,” is taking to heart, as well.

      2. Rev Griffiths,

Thanks very much indeed for getting in touch, though we find your correspondence slightly bewildering.

Which comments do you find “disturbing”?

We say the report is blasphemous – it is.

We say Rev David Hull is to be commended for speaking out – it is commendable.

We say Rev David Hull should separate immediately (and, indeed, in reality many years ago) – he ought to have.

Indeed, Rev Griffiths, you too ought to have separated by now.

2 Corinthians 6:14,17 says: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”

We assume you would say you are saved, having asked forgiveness of sins and placed your faith in Christ as the only way to heaven and only route to salvation. That being the case, you are viewed as righteous in the eyes of God and as the light of the world – what fellowship are you to have with unrighteousness and darkness? It is a rhetorical question of course. You are instructed to separate yet have not done so.

We say the Methodist Church in general is apostate – it clearly is when five out of every six of its ministers back something which is so obviously an outrage to God.

We do not comment on the ordinary member or worshipper, though any of those who support this wickedness are in grave error.

Like we said to the author of the previous comment, the apostrophes are placed around the names of the female ministers as the Bible prohibits female ministers (1 Timothy 2:12).

Had the Saviour wanted to make a point about the role of women in senior religious positions, surely He could have called one to be an Apostle – modernists are very keen to point out how supposedly “counter cultural” Jesus was, yet He didn’t choose a female Apostle but rather 12 men. He chose a hated tax collector, men of lowly estate, men of limited education, but no women. Of course, He demonstrated the value of women, which all true believers uphold, but He didn’t set women up in religious authority.

As for your comment about the gentleman from Cameroon, it is beneath contempt and, we suspect, a rather mischievous attempt to detract from what we say, for which there is no Biblical argument proffered against.

The sad refrain of “Pharisee!” is disappointing as well. The Pharisees made up their own rules outwith the Word of God, we, by His grace, do no such thing.

We are well acquainted with the passage to which you refer.

It is out of love for souls and for the truth of God’s Word that we write what we do.

We do not wish to see others lost, led astray by false teachers such as that overwhelming majority of clergy within the church you mystifyingly still cling to, but rather speak out as a voice for God’s truth.

A similar thing goes for the idea of casting the first stone. If we were to apply that logic to everything then nobody would ever point out that anything is a sin and if people do not know they have sinned then they will not feel any need to repent and be saved.

We do trust you will review your position and make the break from this denomination which has brazenly pushed God out the door.

  2. Thank you for being a voice, however small, crying out against the madness of the so called ‘LGBT’…movement (the list is open ended, no absolutes on shifting sands. When will P for pedophile be added?). Sodomy, buggery, perversion, etc are correct terms. Two sodomites in a marriage today – will be three, four, or brothers & sisters within a fake marriage tomorrow?
No gaily [gay] happy future for the unrepentant, proud-depraved, only everlasting misery in hell. How satan twists words!
Until a few yrs ago I attended a village UR Church – then they brought in sodomite marriage. I have not been to church since. The spreading cancer of deception is everywhere. It is right to leave an apostate church – not stay & debate; to do so is testing God – satan’s power cant be underestimated, caving in is inevitable. Martyn Lloyd Jones was right back in the 1970’s, calling Christians to come out of mainline churches. What would he make it today? My hope is for small home gatherings of Bible centred Christians, praying and fasting and warning against the wolves, the depraved hirelings bringing these decisions; judgement begins in the house of the Lord. Women have no place in church leadership or mixed teaching. The head of woman is man, the head of man is Christ. The worlds standards inc the feminist movement has been encouraged to thrive in the mainline churches, rather than be uprooted
